Have you ever watched your own inner voice conversing with you? Take a moment and think of what is usually going on inside of your head. Your mind is constantly processing some kind of inner dialog….
“ I should go get mail from the mail box before the rain starts. Ooops, it is already raining; so, I should wait., I should check my emails now. What time is it? The dinner is at 6. I better take
the fish out from the freezer … Why is it so quiet downstairs…? The kids are up to something “no good”. I should go check it out..Shoot, I just recently dusted the staircase, why is it covered with the fuzz again… Hhm, .. my ankles started cracking. I hope this is “nothing “. When was my last Annual check out? I need to remember to call the office next week. ”
- Does any of that sound familiar? The brain is constantly working. Either you are at work or at home; your mind rarely takes a break. Thus, you should learn to relax it. Control it.
Why should we take good care of our brain? Do I really need to explain that to you?
Our brains can lock up in a state of overload. Also, in a stressful situation it is necessary to be able to focus and clear your mind completely to be able to analyze matters effectively. Our mind can be our friend and also can be our enemy. If it overflows with the emotions and memories, it can do unpredictable things. Having an ability to clear your mind and see things for what they are can be a life changing thing; for better!
Yoga teaches us to connect the breath, body and mind. The yoga trinity, if you want.
Somehow, magically, with every practice, you will start seeing the transformation, not only the transformation in the contour of your abs but also in your mind. You will notice your increased ability to be in the PRESENT moment, your ability to focus better in your daily life; I guarantee you the change that you will love.
If you can do this (tree pose) once a day, daily, this should be a good start for increasing focus and awareness.. And when you are ready, find a yoga studio in your area, if you have not done it yet, and begin practicing regularly. You will be a happier person. If you do not want to be a happier person, continue with the status quo. It is all in your hands..
Any balancing pose keeps you focused on one thing at a time: TREE POSE
1. Stand with feet hip-width apart. Breathe in on a count of 4 through your nose. Take a pose (2 sec if good) and breathe out on the count 4 or 6.
2. Now, continue your breath work and start shifting weight onto left foot.
3. Bend right knee and place right foot on inside of left thigh, just above the knee. (If you can't keep your balance this way, place foot just below the knee or on your ankle, never on your knee joint.) The right knee opens out to side. Make sure pelvis faces forward. PRESS your foot into the thigh and push the thigh into your foot. Create a bind. That is one of the key things in this pose.
4. Bring hands together in front of chest in prayer position. Fix gaze on a nearby object.
After balancing 30 – 90 seconds, slowly lower arms, come back to standing. Repeat on other side.
5. Start again but, repeat the pose on first side but bring the arms overhead with hands separated shoulder-width apart and palms facing each other. Repeat pose (with arms overhead) on other side. Hold each side 30-90 seconds. Concentrate on your inhale and exhale. Hold the balance. Focus. Don’t let any thoughts creep into your head.
Do that daily. Do it in between the meetings. ;-) You will thank me later..
With love,
Truly yours,
Me
Balance is so important to our lives yet we let ourselves get out of balance so quickly and so often...
